1 What these terms cover

These terms govern your use of the MyTapWater API, embeddable widget, and any data accessed through them (together, the "Services"). By signing up for an API key, widget key, or accessing our data in any way, you agree to these terms.

2 What you can do

You may use the Services to:

3 What you cannot do

You may not:

4 Data accuracy and limitations

Our data is sourced from official Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) annual compliance reports published by UK water companies. We update our dataset as new reports are published, typically annually per company.

Important: Water quality can vary over time and within supply zones. Our data represents zone-level averages from compliance reports — it does not reflect real-time conditions at any specific tap. We do not guarantee that the data is complete, current, or error-free at all times.

You must not present MyTapWater data as real-time water quality monitoring, laboratory test results, or a substitute for professional water testing.

Data, scores, flags and recommendations are general informational outputs based on area-level compliance data. They are not professional advice, health advice, safety advice, environmental advice, property advice, laboratory testing, certification or a substitute for independent testing or professional assessment.

5 Attribution

Unless you have a white-label agreement, you must include visible attribution when displaying MyTapWater data. The minimum requirement is: "Water quality data from MyTapWater" with a link to mytapwater.co.uk, displayed near the data.

Where data is displayed, clients must also include the following disclaimer or substantially similar wording: "Data is compiled from public and third-party source materials and is provided for general information only. It is area-level information and is not property-specific testing, health advice, safety advice or professional advice."

6 API keys and access

Each API key and widget key is issued to a specific person, company, and domain. Keys are non-transferable. We may revoke any key at any time if we believe these terms have been breached, with or without prior notice.

Widget keys are domain-locked and will only function on the registered domain. Attempting to use a widget key on an unregistered domain is a breach of these terms.

API keys should be stored server-side where practicable. You must not embed API keys in public client-side code unless we have expressly approved that implementation and appropriate technical restrictions such as domain locking are in place. You must notify us immediately if you suspect any compromise, leak, unauthorised use or loss of your API credentials.

7 Rate limits and fair use

Your plan includes specific monthly and hourly call limits. If you exceed these limits, requests will return a 429 status code. Sustained or repeated overuse may result in key suspension.

If you need higher limits, contact us at hello@mytapwater.co.uk to discuss enterprise plans.

8 Pricing and payment

Subscription plans are billed monthly via our payment provider (Lemon Squeezy). Prices are listed on our website and may change with 30 days' notice. Custom pricing agreements are available for enterprise clients and take precedence over published prices.

9 Intellectual property

The MyTapWater dataset, scoring methodology, zone mappings, and all associated software are the intellectual property of Hyde Organics Ltd. Your use of the Services does not transfer any ownership of the data or technology to you.

10 Liability

The Services are provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hyde Organics Ltd is not liable for any loss, damage, or claim arising from your use of or reliance on the data, including but not limited to decisions made based on water quality scores or parameters.

Our total liability to you for any claim related to the Services is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11 Termination

Either party may terminate at any time. You may cancel your subscription and stop using your key. We may revoke your key and terminate your access if you breach these terms, with immediate effect.

On termination, you must stop using the Services and delete any cached data within 14 days.

12 Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

13 Data protection

We process personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. The API returns data about water supply zones and postcodes, not identified individuals. However, API request logs may include IP addresses and usage data which we process as independent controller for service administration, billing, security and compliance purposes. For details see our Privacy Policy.

14 Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
